Author Interview with Chase Will
Q: If you could have a fantasy pet, what would you have and why?
A: I’d probably own a dragon, because I like the idea of lighting my enemies on fire and LARPing as a Game of Thrones character. Also, dragons are badass.
Q: What type of music best describes your writing style?
A: I’d say industrial music is the best comparison. My writing has an angry vibe at times, and it pushes boundaries more often than not.
Q: Tell us about your writing office/space and why it’s special to you.
A: I have an office at my house, where I keep all my horror memorabilia on the walls along with a calendar outlining all future releases. I’m pretty strict about my writing schedule, so you’ll find lots of notes on self-imposed deadlines. It’s special to me because it’s where I get my best work done, and it’s a place I can escape and forget about the outside world (unless my kitten, Roland, jumps onto my lap, in which case, I’m pretty much a prisoner).
Q: What is the most challenging part of writing for you?
A: Keeping things fresh is always a challenge. I don’t like retreading old grounds unless I have more to say on a subject. The furthest I’ve gone with sequels is the Where Dreams Are Entombed series, which is four books, each of them adding something new to the mix.
Q: If you didn’t write full-time what would your day job be?
A: I don’t currently write full-time, but it’s a part of my five-year plan. Right now, I write for four hours a day, when I’m not working as a full-time national sales rep. I won’t name the company, since I don’t do free advertising, but they’re pretty good to me. Having said that, I look forward to the day I can quit my day job for good and write full-time.
Q: What is your writing schedule and how many projects do you juggle at once?
A: Right now, I average about 2,500 words per day, and I’m working on four projects simultaneously. I plan to release TEN new books in 2026, which is a big undertaking. Hopefully readers enjoy what I’m cooking up for them.
Q: How do you balance your outside life with your writing life?
A: Good question. Honestly, I’m still figuring it out. For the most part, I have an understanding with my significant other that when I’m in my office, I’m unavailable for most other things, but when I’m in the living room, I’m free to just hang out and enjoy life. I try to divide my time outside of my day job evenly between writing and other things, but I always feel like I can do more with my writing.
Q: Write your eulogy in three sentences.
A: “He came. He saw. He wrote.”
Q: What project are you most proud of right now?
A: I’m pretty proud of my latest release, Laid to Rest, which is about a murderer being thrown into another world a la Alice in Wonderland meets Silent Hill with a splatterpunk twist. For as weird as the book is, I’d say it’s my best work to date. I wrote it in a creative frenzy, and it slipped out of me like a large splinter.
Q: Do you have any new projects you would like to tell your fans about?
A: Forthcoming books are Don’t Fuck in the Woods: The Novelization, based on a 2016 indie horror film by Shawn Burkett of Concept Media, as well as Mandated Smiles II, Repugnant, and Birthday Girl II. It’s going to be a very, very busy year!
Q: Where can people find you on social media?
A: I’m on Facebook, Instagram, and Patreon. Come say hello and talk horror with me!
