Author Interview with Rick Powell

Q: If you could have a fantasy pet, what would you have and why?
A: A giant spider. One I can ride like a horse. There is nothing more graceful than a spider spinning its web. It is like a giant finger ballet.

Q: What type of music best describes your writing style?
A: Music composed by Bernard Herrmann or Pino Donnagio. With a little bit of Goblin thrown in. Haunting and gets under your skin.

Q: Tell us about your writing office/space and why it’s special to you.
A: Either the small desk in my living room or at my kitchen table. Wherever coffee is readily available. My main work area is in my head. That is where I hear the whispers.

Q: What is the most challenging part of writing for you?
A: Putting it into coherent words. The longest distance in the world is from your head to the fingers on your keyboard.

Q: If you didn’t write full-time what would your day job be?
A: Full-time sculptor or painter. Or a cemetery grounds keeper.

Q: What is your writing schedule and how many projects do you juggle at once?
A: It is whenever it hits me. I cannot force the process. I try to stick with it until it is done or when the writer’s block hits. THAT is when I start a different project or do something to keep the creative juices flowing. Sometimes, you have to step away from the MS you are working on and come back to it with new eyes.

Q: How do you balance your outside life with your writing life?
A: It is tough when working 45+ hours a week. I try to write a little each day. Could be a few sentences. Could be a few paragraphs.

Q: Write your eulogy in three sentences.
A: Never gonna give you up. Never gonna let you down. Never gonna run around and hurt you... (just kidding) I did my best. It is your turn. Leave your mark.

Q: What project are you most proud of right now?
A: Lustcraftian Horrors:Erotic Stories inspired by the works of H.P. Lovecraft. It was a blast being part of that anthology with so many seasoned and respected veterans of the writing field.

Q: Do you have any new projects you would like to tell your fans about?
A: My collection of seven short stories A Glimpse Beyond the Veil released by I Ain’t Your Marrionette Press that became available this year.

Bio: Rick Powell lives in Oak Forest, Illinois. He is a lover of horror and dark fiction and his poetry and stories have appeared in numerous publications like The Ladies & Gentlemen of Horror 2014 & 2017, Infernal Ink Magazine. The Tantalizing Anthology, Lustcraftian Horrors: Erotic Stories Inspired by H.P. Lovecraft, and a children’s book titled George the Holiday Spider.
